Project Completion - Mackenzie River Anabranch Diversion and Levee Construction Project

In March 2024, Jellinbah Coal Mine in Blackwater awarded Exact Civil Construction to construct the diversion of an existing Anabranch and construct a new levee.

The existing anabranch is part of the Mackenzie River that runs through the Jellinbah Mining lease. This project aimed to facilitate the expansion of the open-cut mining operations. To access coal reserves located to the east of the Mackenzie River Anabranch, there was a need to divert and extend the existing river, as well as construct a new levee.

The project involved stripping and stockpiling topsoil for future use of the strict rehabilitation process, excavation of the new Anabranch and stockpile material on the mining lease, apply clay liner in sandy areas, construct the new levee to waterproof the new proposed mining operations and rehabilitation including site specific hydromulch and vegetation.

Exact Civil stripped 380,000 m3 of topsoil, excavated 3.72 million m3 of material to stockpile, constructed 163,000 m3 of clay liner and placed and compacted 210,000 m3 in a levee to regulated structure standards.

This project was achieved using all of Exact Civil's plant and machinery which included; a team of 4 x Cat 777 Dump Trucks, 1250T Excavator, a team (15) of Cat 631 Scrapers, 3 x Cat D10 Dozers, 4 x 740 Articulated Dump Trucks and a 50T Excavator. Compaction was achieved using our own Cat825 compactors, 740 water trucks and 16M graders.

GPS machine control on all graders and excavators ensured the fill and anabranch design lines were kept in compliance throughout the construction.
